English CDV of newly built houses

English CDV of newly built houses CDV216-4

Culled from an English album, these two CDV's show what is most probably a new residential development, circa 1865-1870. In the top photo you see the homes, with their numerous chimneys, set back in a field and surrounded by low walls. In the bottom photo is a rear view of one of the streets. Could those box-like structures extending off the back of each house be the WC's? No backmark. Both images in as-new condition, and very scarce. $65.00
English CDV of outdoor scene CDV217-4 CDV of an idyllic outdoor scene in the British Isles. In a field, surrounded by bushes and trees and bathed in sunlight, stands a woman and a little girl who's wearing a straw hat on her head. Very scarce. $50.00
English CDV of parrish church and road CDV218-4 CDV of a village somewhere in the British Isles. This is a beautifully composed and artful photograph. No backmark. If this church is still standing, perhaps someone will recognize it. In fine, as-new condition. Very special. $95.00

CDV by Provost, Toulouse, France CDV by Provost, Toulouse, FranceCDV209-4 Exceptional pair of French CDV's. It's the same woman in both images. In the first one she wears her hair up with flowers in it, and leans her elbow on a CDV album perched on the top of a chair. In the second one her hair is down, and though she's posed similarly, she holds in her hand a small book. The chairs are different, but it's the same large book sitting on the chair seat in each pose, and of course her gowns are different, both of them beautifully tailored and displayed. I believe that these may be Second Empire "fashion" plates. Backmark of "(Antoine) Provost, Toulouse, France". Each backmark has a small patch of residue covering part of it. Else, both are in fine, clean condition. $35.00, the pair.

Backmark of "Thurston, Providence, RI". However, I suspect that the photographer has taken an existing image of the subject and re-photographed it, adding his (?) own backmark. Perhaps Ristori was performing locally on one of her American tours, and the photographer wished to take advantage of this. In fine, clean condition. $45.00
